KUALA LUMPUR 29 May 2020: As Malaysia prepares to relax lockdown measures and reopen airline services, advance information on flight scheduling suggests AirAsia is planning to resume more flights from Kuala Lumpur.
However, the airline said in an email to TTR Weekly, 30 May, that “the information provided in this report was “unfortunately inaccurate as we did not announce such flight resumptions yet.”
Correct there has been no official announcement from the airline. According to a recent scheduling update that is reflected on the airline’s booking system, AirAsia’s advance timetable information suggests flights have restart dates scheduled for mid-June.
Due to the uncertainties presented by the Covid-19 crisis nothing is set in stone until government approvals are reached and national restrictions are eased.
Airlines are struggling with uncertainties surround ing Covid-19 which makes it almost impossible for them to plan ahead with any degree of certainty.
According to the provisional scheduling as indicated by booking systems the airline is considering the resumption of services from Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Penang to 15 destinations in Asia all in mid-June.
On the cards are services from Kuala Lumpur on routes to India. To Bangalore, the plan calls for three weekly flights and to Chennai four weekly. To Tiruchirapalli, it is considering a three-weekly service.
It plans to serve the Kuala Lumpur – Dhaka (Bangladesh) route with four weekly flights.
In the ASEAN region, Air Asia will fly daily services from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and Jakarta in Indonesia as well as a four-weekly service to Medan Kualanamu, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
Also, the airline will start a four-weekly service from Kuala Lumpur to Yangon in Myanmar.
A three-weekly service to Phnom Penh the capital of Cambodia should launch soon. Twice daily services are planned for Singapore.
A service from Kuala Lumpur to Manila in the Philippines should resume with four weekly flights.
The airline plans to fly from Kuching in Sarawak state, East Malaysia, to Singapore offering four weekly flights.
Three-weekly services from Penang to Medan Kualanamu in Indonesia are in the planning stage and from Penang to Singapore provisional information shows AirAsia returning with a daily flight.
The airline told TTR Weekly “We will be sure to inform you about the accurate information once we have the official announcement.”
