HANOI, 14 September 2020: Vietnam Airlines will operate restricted flights to Tokyo from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during the remainder of September.
The airline’s timetable updates confirm a resumption of services from Hanoi to Tokyo Narita using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Flights will depart 23, 25 and 30 September. From Ho Chi Minh City flights will depart to Tokyo on 25 and 30 September.
Due to the current travel restrictions in Vietnam and Japan, the airline is only accepting bookings for the outbound flights to Tokyo from Vietnam and not for the return sectors.
However, in related news, the airline confirmed it is planning to reopen international flights to both Japan and South Korea possibly by the end of September. Passengers would still need to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine in Vietnam.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) had earlier outlined a plan to resume international flights to South Korea and Japan starting from 15 September. However, discussions with South Korean continue in order to offer flights (one-way) for passengers who need to return to South Korea.
