HANOI, 6 October 2020: Danang’s Department of Tourism welcomed the first group of domestic tourists, 4 October, after more than a two-month tourism lockdown introduced in July to combat a Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
The Vietnam Government portal said officials presented gifts to the first tourists that arrived on a flight from Hanoi.
The 55-strong tourist group had originally booked the trip in August but had to postpone the following the outbreak in a hospital in Danang that spread districts across the central region of the country by late July.
Deputy director of the Danang Tourism Promotion Centre, Mai Thi Thanh Hai, said that welcoming tourists to Danang was a significant step forward for Danang to welcome back tourists.
Vietnam remains closed to international tourism but can tap a substantial domestic travel market, the third-largest in Southeast Asia after Indonesia and the Philippines.
