YANGON, 14 June 2021: Myanmar Airways International says it will reintroduce some international flights in July, mostly semi-commercial repatriation or relief flights to Kuala Lumpur, Seoul-Incheon, Bangkok and Dubai.

It made the announcement on its Facebook page at the weekend. At present, there are no international flights to Myanmar following a military coup on 2 February that ousted the elected government and led to country-wide civil resistance.

The country is in lockdown, and MAI is the only airline based in Myanmar to confirm it is now selling one-way fares on limited flights from Yangon to regional cities in July. The fares and travel details don’t identify a return fare option.

To Kuala Lumpur, it will offer 13 flights in July with the one-way economy fare set at USD160. The flight number is 8M5001.

To Seoul, Korea, there are four flights scheduled with an economy fare of USD584. The flight number is 8M801.

To Bangkok, Thailand, there are five flights with a one-way fare of USD50. The flight number is 8M335.

To Dubai, just one flight in July with a one-way fare of USD750. The flight number is 8M1100.

On its website, it provides guidelines for passengers wishing to book flights. The airline says all passengers leaving Myanmar must make their booking 60 days upfront to meet the military government’s requirements.

Passengers will have to present a Covid-19 RT-PCR negative test result within 72 hours of their planned departure.

While the airline has just announced it will offer limited flights to Kuala Lumpur, Seoul-Incheon, Bangkok and Dubai during July, the 60-day advance booking rule set by the military government means the earliest travel date would be early August. If the airline has passengers booked for flights in July, it must have been promoting the fares back in May and June.
