Aqua Blu lines up new cruises

SINGAPORE, 5 October 2023: Aqua Expeditions, a specialist in small-ship expeditions, expands its horizons by offering three new itineraries in 2025 that explore the wildest, most remote corners of East Indonesia.

The seven- and 12-night expeditions immerse travellers in some of the world’s most uncharted lands, home to lush jungles, impressive cave systems, vivid underwater ecosystems, and Indigenous communities.

Snorkelling and diving excursions invite possible sightings of whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, and other rare wildlife. At the same time, private tenders whisk guests deep into the jungle to discover local villages, interact with members of the Asmat tribe, and have the chance to spot endemic forest kangaroos.

Seven nights – Ambon to Kaimana Expedition: 1 to 8 November 2025

Dual destination to The Spice Islands and West Papua

This dual-destination itinerary combines the best Spice Islands itinerary already offered onboard Aqua Blu with the new unexplored charters of West Papua. Departing from Ambon, Aqua Blu will sail along the island’s scenic northern coast en route to the Banda Islands. Here, guests can stroll through the Dutch Fort Belgica, which towers over Banda Neira island, once the most hotly contested island in the world as it was the only producer of nutmeg and mace, spices that were once worth more than their weight in gold. Next, it’s off to the three remote island groups of Koon, Gorong, and Watubela — a divers’ paradise boasting colourful coral reefs and occasional sightings of leopard sharks and hammerheads. The following stop, Teluk Sebakor, is just as much of a marine and terrestrial wonderland, known for its mangrove forests, karst limestone islands, and a shoreline cove inhabited by a colony of screeching bats. Next is the forested outback of Cape Pepisol, where a micro-weather system adds to the adventure as guests trek almost a mile upriver to the Karawawi village. The journey ends in Triton Bay for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of swimming with the 40-foot whale sharks and visiting Kiti Kiti waterfall at Momon.

Seven nights – Kaimana to Kaimana Expedition:  8 to 15 November & 15-22 November

Two West Papua & Asmat Tribe Expedition Sailings

Starting in the vibrant town of Kaimana, the expedition heads south to Triton Bay and Namatote, a diver’s paradise known for incredible seascapes, pristine coral reefs, and thriving underwater ecosystems home to over 1000 species of marine life. Aqua Blu then sails to the Asmat region, a remote part of West Papua known by few travellers. Private tenders will speed guests up the waterways and deep into the jungle toward the traditional villages inhabited by the Asmat people — one of the largest tribes in Papua known for their rich heritage and traditions, including ancestor worship and the use of rituals to maintain the balance of the natural world. The final stop includes Momon, home to the spectacular Kiti Kiti waterfall that thunders directly into the open sea.

12 nights – Kaimana to Sorong Expedition: 22 November – 4 December 2025

Dual destination sailing to Asmat Tribe in West Papua and Raja Ampat

With Aqua’s newest twelve-night itinerary, guests will explore the best of the West Papua and Raja Ampat itineraries. Travelling from Kaimana to Sorong, this itinerary offers an epic mix of culture, wildlife, and underwater adventure. Featuring two nights in the Asmat region, guests can visit the tribe’s communal houses and observe their unique arts, crafts, and traditional dances. There will be two days of discovering the magnificent One Thousand Temples – karst islets eroded by the ocean and rain, leaving behind steep limestone spires. Tenders will take travellers through jellyfish lakes and cave systems before rounding out the expedition in the marine protected area Mayalibit Bay for a canoe excursion, a hike to spot rare birds of paradise on Waigeo Island, and a swim down the shimmering blue Kali Biru River.

The first ever long-range ocean explorer yacht permanently based in East Indonesia, Aqua Blu, originally built as a British Royal Navy Explorer, makes exploring the region’s most mythical landscapes and underwater worlds easy.

The superyacht has top-of-the-line, non-motorised water sports equipment, including diving and snorkelling gear, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Back on board, expect personalised service with a highly exclusive 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio with customised service and world-class cuisine from chef Benjamin Cross—who draws inspiration from the region’s ingredients and spice routes—provides another lens for discovering the destination.

Expedition package prices start from USD12,290 per person for seven nights and USD19,640 per person for 12 nights (in double occupancy).

SAS to join Air France-KM Group

PARIS, 5 October 2023: Air France-KLM will team up with Swedish airline SAS through equity and commercial cooperation, the airlines announced on Wednesday.

Air France-KLM will take up to a maximum 19.9% non-controlling stake in the share capital of the reorganised SAS AB, subject to approvals and conditions.

Air France-KLM said its goal is to enhance the group’s footprint in Scandinavian markets through commercial cooperation between its airlines and SAS.

The airline group welcomes today’s announcement by SAS AB’s Board of Directors that the Air France-KLM Group, Castlelake LP on behalf of certain funds or affiliates, and Lind Invest ApS (“Consortium”) have, together, been selected as the winning bidder in SAS’s exit financing solicitation process.

Air France-KLM CEO Benjamine Smith stated: “This is an important day for SAS and Air France-KLM. We are pleased to be part of the winning bidding consortium selected by the board of SAS. Air France-KLM looks forward to establishing strong commercial ties with SAS. With its well-established position in Scandinavia and strong brand, SAS offers tremendous potential to Air France-KLM. This cooperation will allow Air France-KLM to enhance its position in the Nordics and improve connectivity for Scandinavian and European travellers. We look forward to being a part of this new chapter in SAS’ history and thank the board of SAS for their trust.”

The Consortium’s investment proposal is subject to certain conditions and regulatory approvals including, but not limited to, approval by the European Commission, the US court overseeing the Chapter 11 reorganisation and, in respect of SAS AB, the Swedish court.

Should this transaction be approved and all the other conditions (including regulatory clearances and cancellation of all existing shares of stock of SAS AB) be satisfied, the Consortium, together with the Danish State, would invest USD1.175 billion, of which USD475 million in common shares and USD700 million in the form of secured convertible bonds.

Air France-KLM’s investment would represent USD144.5 million, of which USD109.5 million would be invested in common shares and USD 35 million would be provided as secured convertible bonds. Upon completion of the transaction, Air France-KLM would own up to a maximum 19.9% non-controlling stake in the share capital of the reorganised SAS AB.

The IATA (International Air Transport Association) winter season begins on the last Sunday of October and ends on the last Saturday of March every year (29 October 29 2023 to 30 March 2024).

Korean Air’s seat capacity (measured by Available Seat Kilometers or ASK) reached approximately 85% of pre-pandemic levels last September and is expected to recover to over 90% with the launch of the winter schedule.

New daily service to Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Korean Air will launch a new daily service to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, on 26 November. Resuming services to cities in China and Japan

After a three-year and seven-month pause, Korean Air will resume services to three cities in China and Japan respectively. Network recovery in China and Japan has been relatively slower than other regions, and the resumption will help the airline restore its expansive global network.

For the China routes, Busan-Shanghai and Seoul Incheon-Xiamen will operate daily, and Seoul Incheon-Kunming four times a week. Korean Air will proactively increase its capacity to China to meet the growing number of Chinese visitors, especially following China’s resumption of group tours from August to 78 countries, including Korea, Japan and the US.

From late October, the airline will resume routes from Seoul Incheon to Kagoshima, Niigata and Okayama with three weekly flights. The resumption will offer schedule diversity and options for those exploring smaller Japanese cities.

Increasing frequencies to China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Oceania and North America

Korean Air will expand its China network capacity by increasing the Seoul Incheon-Beijing frequency to 18 times a week from daily, Jeju-Beijing to four times a week from three, Seoul Incheon-Shenzhen and Seoul Incheon-Xian increase to daily from four times a week, Seoul Incheon-Wuhan to four times a week from three, and Seoul Incheon-Hong Kong frequency will double from twice daily to four daily.

Korean Air will increase frequencies on the Seoul Incheon-Osaka and Seoul Incheon-Fukuoka routes to four daily from three and on the Seoul Incheon-Tokyo Narita route to four daily from two. The airline will also expand services on the Seoul Incheon-Nagoya route to operate 17 times a week from two daily until 27 December.

As for Southeast Asia, the airline will increase flights on the Incheon-Bangkok route to five times daily from three; the Incheon-Manila route to three times daily from two; and the Seoul Incheon-Delhi and Seoul Incheon-Kathmandu routes to four times a week from three. The Incheon-Chiang Mai route frequency will increase to twice daily from daily until 2 March next year.

Frequencies on the Seoul Incheon-Auckland and Seoul Incheon-Brisbane routes will increase daily from five weekly from 10 November to 18 March 2024. The Seoul Incheon-Las Vegas route frequency will also increase to five weekly from four.
